    Article summary

    Issue

When comparable (comps) maps are merged into Word, pins indicating the locations of the comparables or subject are missing, or in the wrong locations.

    Causes

There are a few potential causes for this issue:

    1. Changes were made to comparables (comps) or their locations after the map was already generated.

    2. The wrong latitude/longitude was entered.

    3. The table in Word is failing to update.

    Solution

To fix the issue of missing or misplaced pins in comparable (comps) maps, follow these steps:

    1. The simplest thing to try first is to clear the Report Writer temp files, then re-run Prep Fields and Tables in the associated Excel document. For details on this, see: Clear Temp Files. Afterwards, try merging again.

    2. If this does not rectify the issue, it might be a good idea to confirm the problematic properties have the correct latitude/longitude.

      1. For the subject, this can be found on the Site worksheet. You may want to unhide the Database column to make sure it shows the intended value. If you want to double-check where the entered latitude/longitude places your subject, there are a variety of websites for this purpose, like Google Maps, where you can enter the latitude/longitude in the search bar.

      2. For the comparables, if you log into your database, you should be able to view their entered latitude/longitude on the General page. This also includes a map preview of where they are located.

      3. If you need to change the location of a comp in the database that has already been imported, the Refresh Comp Data or Synchronize Database button next to the relevant analysis grid in Excel will pull in the updated information. You will want to re-run Prep Fields and Tables afterward.

    3. If the temp files are clear and all properties have the correct latitude/longitude, it may be worth confirming if the maps are prepped correctly. If you open the %temp%\Narrative1 folder, you can view the generated maps by opening the folder with the same name as your Excel file, then the ExcelTables folder inside that. The maps (along with all prepped tables) are stored here. The sales grid, land grid, and lease grid comp maps will be named SalesGridCompMap.png, LandGridCompMap.png, and LeaseGridCompMap.png respectively. If the maps here are correct, but failing to come into Word, it may be worth deleting the map in Word and re-inserting it using the Fields and Tables tool in Word.
