Overview
EDR’s Groundwater Flow Tool is an analysis tool that allows environmental professionals to quickly and effectively screen their target properties for groundwater flow direction.
Step 1: Open the Groundwater Flow Tool
To begin using the Groundwater Flow Tool, open LightBox Live, click the Tools button in the top right corner and select Groundwater Flow.
Step 2: Define Direction and Area
The Groundwater Flow Tool helps you easily define your groundwater flow direction:
Evaluate groundwater flow direction by adjusting the direction of the blue arrow depicting the estimated direction of groundwater flow. The initial, default direction is based on surface topography. You can change the direction by dragging the blue arrow or by editing the numeric value.
Review distances shown in the dialogue box for the up-gradient and and down-gradient quadrants. The default areas are 90’ angles. Adjust those distances, if necessary, based on local knowledge, surface features, or other data you may have.
Step 3: Apply Distances
Click Apply Distances.
The Quadrants will be displayed on the map as Up Gradient, Cross Gradient and Down Gradient.
The table of Map Findings will display a column indicating which quadrant a record falls into.
Note that if you are using the VEC App (which includes a Groundwater component), the Groundwater Flow tool will be disabled.
Step 4: Review Sites
Review Sites in the list, based on which gradient area they fall inside.
